Living Spaces & Places

Living Spaces & Places is about supporting towns and villages to come together around shared questions about their future.

We work with our neighbouring towns and villages to build confidence, trust, and collective capacity, helping people imagine what they want their place to become and take practical steps towards getting there.

  • Many places are experiencing rapid change, loss of services, and growing pressure on people who already care deeply about their communities. Often, the challenge isn’t a lack of ideas or commitment, but a lack of support, coordination, and space to work together over time.

By creating the conditions for collective action, this work helps communities move from fragmentation and fatigue towards shared ownership, confidence, and long-term stewardship of their place.

  • We don’t arrive with a plan. We build it together.

Our role is to listen carefully, build trust, support community-led processes, and connect people, projects and institutions so change can grow from within the place itself.

We stay with the work over time, moving at the pace relationships need and remaining accountable to the people and places we work alongside.

In practice, this often takes the form of long-term place-based journeys, creative community processes, and the development of shared spaces and local leadership.

    • Groundmakers: Groundmakers are long-term, place-based journeys we hold with neighbouring towns and villages navigating change. Working alongside local hubs, community centres and grassroots leaders, we help communities move from uncertainty or loss toward shared direction and practical action. Each journey builds local confidence, governance, skills and collective capacity that lasts beyond any single project.

    • Imaginariums: Imaginariums are creative, community-wide gatherings where people come together to imagine the future of their place. Through art, storytelling and facilitated conversation, everyone has a chance to contribute ideas, explore possibilities and shape a shared vision. These spaces help build confidence, agency and collective imagination β€” the foundations for long-term change.

We always do this work in collaboration with community hubs and local initiatives, helping them become places where people can meet, organise and take action together.

  • We work with communities, councils, funders, and anchor organisations who want to support place-based change that is led by local people and rooted in long-term stewardship.

If your town or village is: facing change or transition, exploring community ownership or shared assets, looking to build confidence, connection, and agency, seeking a trusted partner to support complex, relational work we’d love to explore whether working together feels like a good fit.

  • Looking ahead to the next decade, we can imagine multiple towns and villages that have been supported through these processes, places where community assets are back in community ownership, local economies are more rooted and resilient, and culture, heritage, and creativity sit at the heart of everyday life.

In these places, people across generations are involved in shaping decisions, local knowledge is valued, and care for land, history, and community is shared rather than shouldered by a few. The work looks different in every place, but the pattern is similar: stronger relationships, greater agency, and communities better equipped to navigate change together.
